BBC criticised after Eastenders overspending

A National Audit Office report has been published on the BBC's programme to replace and enlarge the EastEnders set.

The report concludes that the BBC will not be able to deliver value for money because the project is now forecast to cost £27 million more and take an additional two and a half years to complete than stated in the original plans in October 2015.

The E20 project is now forecast to cost £86.7 million and be completed in May 2023, and the NAO says that the BBC could have addressed some of the reasons for the delay and cost increases earlier.
