TATA steel workers await future on jobs

The company has announced a merger with Thyssenkrup

Steel workers at one of the UK's biggest plants - TATA steel- are awaiting their fate as it's confirmed the company has approved plans to merge with German company Thyssenkrup.

It would make it the second largest steel group in Europe but means 4000 jobs could be lost. Unions are asking for protective measures for the Port Talbort plant were over 4000 people are employed. 

The group have said that losses would be across both companies and would be in both administration and production posts.
