New standards to protect children from irresponsible gambling ads

New rules are to be introduced aimed at protecting younger people from irresponsible gambling

The Committees of Advertising Practice have published a report outlining new standards to protect children and young people from irresponsible gambling adverts.

The report follows a review of evidence from the rulings made by the Advertising Standards Authority.

Some of the new standards include prohibiting sportspersons, celebrities or prominent people who appear to be under the age of 25 from starring in gambling adverts.

It also is extensively listing the types of advertising draws that are likely to appeal to young people, such as certain celebrities or references to youth culture.
