Tribute paid to father and daughter killed in Cumbria blaze

A tribute has been paid to a father and daughter who died in a house fire in Cumbria.

Paul “Archie” Scott, 58, and Mia Carole Scott, 14, died in the blaze in Distington, south of Workington, at 4.47am on Sunday.

In a statement, the headteacher at Mia’s school said that she had an “infectious sense of humour”.

“The whole school community is shocked at this incredibly sad news and we offer our deepest sympathies and condolences to all Mia’s family and friends,” Workington Academy’s executive headteacher Des Bird said.

“Mia was such a kind and caring girl, who was always smiling and helping others. She had the most infectious sense of humour and would always see the good in every situation.

“She was an amazing and loyal friend who will be sadly missed by all of the teachers and students in our school.”

Mr Bird added that the deaths would be “keenly felt by many people”.

Cumbria Police said the fire is not being treated as suspicious but an investigation on behalf of the coroner was under way.
