Moyes expects contract resolution soon

David Moyes is confident a new West Ham contract will be finalised in the next few weeks.

Hammers boss Moyes, who has led the club to sixth in the Premier League and into the last 16 of the Europa League this season, will be out of contract in the summer.

But he said: “We’ll get back on it now the transfer window is shut. We’re well down the line and moving on with it.

“We’ll pick that up again in the next few weeks.”

There are still murmurings of discontent among some West Ham supporters despite their strong first half of the season and Moyes leading the club to a first trophy in 43 years in the Europa Conference League last May.

There was even booing at the end of Thursday night’s lacklustre 1-1 draw at home to Bournemouth.

Moyes added: “West Ham is a really big club, a club which is growing and getting better. We’re nudging it along, taking steps.

“Bournemouth didn’t feel like a good step. but when you’re sixth at the moment in the position you’re in… I want to challenge, challenge for competitions.

“When I came I said to the players I don’t want to be at a club that’s in relegation trouble, that is not the plan.

“Most of the time we’ve been away from that, at a different level. I’m trying to make West Ham as strong as I possibly can. We’re doing a lot of good things, sometimes we’ll not do the right thing but we’ll always try to do the best thing.”
