PLANS TO TACKLE RACE BIAS IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE UNVEILED

IT FOLLOWS A REPORT BY MP DAVID LAMMY THAT SAID THERE WAS SYSTEMATIC PREJUDICE OF BAME PEOPLE.

Plans to tackle race bias within the justice system are due to be outlined today.

The justice secretary is to make recommendations following on from a report from MP David Lammy, which found systemic discrimination against people from minority ethnic backgrounds.

David Lidington has pledged work on each of Mr Lammy's 35 recommendations.

The Lammy Review, published in September, said that people from black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds make up 25% of the prison population and 41% of the youth justice system - but only 14% of the general population.
