Armed officers are expected to be in towns and cities

Towns and cities across the country are gearing up for New Years Eve festivities tonight, with tens of thousands of people expected to hit the high streets to ring in the New Year.Security is expected to be the main focus for many of the organiser.2017 has seen a spike in terror attacks across the country, and has led to a number of plans for celebrations to be reviewed.London's annual River Thames Fireworks Display will see armed officers on the streets, as well as vehicle barriers and sniffer dogs.But organisers are urging people not to panic, and to stay alert - but not alarmed.
