Protesters force the closure of Manchester Piccadilly station causing long delays

Manchester Piccadilly Station was forced to close on Sunday after protesters took to the tracks as part of a demonstration against ISIS.

National Rail issued a statement saying:

 

 

A trespass incident at Manchester Piccadilly is causing major disruption to trains at the station.

Trains may be amended, cancelled or delayed by up to 90 minutes.

Additional information:

Customers are advised that all lines are suspended in and out of Manchester Piccadilly. This is due to protesters on the track.

 

The station will remain closed until all protesters have been removed. All trains at the station will remain until the station opens. Trains on routes using the station will be terminated short of its destination.

You may use your tickets on the following services:

• Arriva Trains Wales

• East Midlands Trains

• Northern

• London Northwestern Railway

• Metrolink

• Manchester Stagecoach Buses

• TransPennine Express

• Virgin Trains

Alternative travel advice for East Midlands Trains customers:

You may use TransPennine Express on reasonable routes.

Alternative travel advice for Northern customers:

Ticket acceptance is place with Metrolink and TransPennine Express on reasonable routes.

Alternative travel advice for TransPennine Express customers:

Ticket acceptance is in operation with Virgin Trains, East Midlands Trains and Northern via any usable route.

Customers requiring Scottish services, please use Metrolinkservices to Manchester Victoria, Northern services to Preston then Virgin services to Scotland. Alternatively, please use services to York, where possible, and board Scottish services from York. 

Rail replacement transport has been ordered at Stalybridge and is en-route.

Alternative travel advice for Virgin Trains customers:

You may use  East Midlands Trains, Northern and TransPennine Express on reasonable routes. And also Transport for Greater Manchester between Manchester and Stockport.
