Police report a steep rise in online grooming cases
Police data show that there were 5,161 crimes of online Sexual Communication with a child recorded over an 18-month time period.
That's according to a report by the NSPCC.
The data also show a 200% rise in grooming cases on Instagram from between April to September 2017 and April and September 2018.
The charity calls for ministers to bring in statutory regulations for social media companies to protect children ahead of the publication of the Government's Online Harms White Paper which is expected to be published shortly.
