PLEDGE TO SUPPORT MENTAL HEALTH FUNDING IN SCHOOLS

THE GOVERNMENT HAS ANNOUNCED PLANS TO IMPROVE MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT IN SCHOOLS IN ENGLAND.

It includes introducing a four-week waiting time for youngsters needing specialist support and new mental health support teams in schools.

Downing Street hopes to have the provision in place in one in four schools by 2022.

According to NHS figures, around one in 10 girls aged 16 or 17 were referred to specialist mental health services in 2016.

The new measures are part of a £300m investment by the Departments of Health and Education.
