POLICE OFFERED ONLINE MEDITATION LESSONS

It's in a bid to tackle stress

Meditation classes to help combat stress are being offered to all police officers and staff in England and Wales.

The decision was made after a trial carried out by five forces found the techniques improved wellbeing, life satisfaction and work performance.

Some 1,337 officers and staff in Avon and Somerset, Bedfordshire, South Wales, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire forces volunteered to spend six months practising mindfulness techniques as part of research by the University of East Anglia which was funded and overseen by the College of Policing.

Mindfulness is described by the researchers as "paying attention to what's happening in the present moment in the mind, body and external environment, with an attitude of curiosity and kindness".
