Nearly a third of cancer patients suffer mental health issues

Experts at Cancer Research UK release details of a new study

Almost a third (29%) of cancer patients have experienced mental health issues such as anxiety and depression, while 11% have sought help from a mental health professional, according to YouGov survey commissioned by Cancer Research UK as it launches its Cancer Care product range.

It finds the biggest change experienced by cancer patients is changes in energy levels (57%), while 29% experienced changes to their hair and 27% found their skin became drier and itchier.

Two-fifths (42%) of cancer patients said that being bought gifts such as flowers or chocolate was not helpful, with 86% of patients saying they would prefer to receive items that would help with the side effects of treatment, such as lip balm.
