Machete-wielding teen detained in Somerset

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested after two teenagers were reportedly threatened with a machete in a Somerset town.

Officers were called to Parkway in Bridgwater at around 6.10pm on Saturday June 3.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested later the same evening and remains in police custody.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary said they were aware of footage posted on social media which showed a child running through the town with a machete.

PCSO supervisor Lora Bray said: “This is a concerning incident but I hope people are reassured by this prompt arrest.

“I’d ask that you don’t share footage of this incident on social media as it could compromise our ongoing investigation.

There will be an increased police presence in the area while inquiries continue, including searches for the weapon.

Witnesses or members of the public with any further information can contact 101 with the reference 5223130121, or contact the Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or crimestoppers-uk.org/give-information.
