Jo Johnson quits UK government over "delusional" Brexit deal

Jo Johnson, the brother of leading Brexit campaigner Boris Johnson, resigned as a junior transport minister on Friday, issuing a damning critique of Prime Minister Theresa May's "delusional" Brexit negotiation and calling for a vote on her final deal.

Junior transport minister Jo Johnson said he was quitting the government over its proposed Brexit deal, calling for a second referendum and saying Britain stood on the brink of the greatest crisis since World War Two.

"Britain stands on the brink of the greatest crisis since the Second World War," Johnson, who voted to stay in the EU in the 2016 referendum, said in a statement.

"Given that the reality of Brexit has turned out to be so far from what was once promised, the democratic thing to do is to give the public the final say," he added.
