Government to clampdown on false free prescriptions

The Government is to clampdown on people falsely claiming free prescriptions.

It's estimated it costs the NHS in England more than 250 million pounds per year.

A new database is to be set up to show who is eligible.

Currently, patients either present an exemption certificate or sign the back of their prescription stating they do not have to pay the £8.80 charge.

The number of fines for false free prescriptions more than doubled in 2017.
