Firefighters tackling blaze on 18th floor of flats
Around 70 firefighters are tackling a blaze at an 18th-floor flat in east London.
London Fire Brigade were called to the fire in Poplar at 4.35am on Saturday morning.
Half of a flat on the 18th floor was alight in the 22-storey block of residential flats in Blackwall Way.
“Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters have been called to a flat fire on Blackwall Way in Poplar,” London Fire Brigade said.
“Half of a flat on the 18th floor of a 22 storey residential block of flats is alight.
“The Brigade’s 999 Control officers were called at 0435 and mobilised crews from Poplar, Whitechapel, Plaistow, Stratford, Shadwell, East Ham, East Greenwich, Bethnal Green and Greenwich fire stations. Crews remain in attendance.”
The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.
