EASYJET WILL FLY TO TUNISIA FOR FIRST TIME SINCE 2015 SOUSSE ATTACK

EasyJet is resuming flights to Tunisia for the first time since the 2015 Sousse massacre.

The airline announced it will operate two flights a week from Gatwick to the beach resort of Enfidha, starting on May 2 2020.

UK airlines stopped flying to Tunisia when the Foreign and Commonwealth Office advised against all but essential visits, following the June 2015 Sousse attack in which 30 Britons were killed.

The guidance was withdrawn for the majority of the North African country in July 2017.

Thomas Cook resumed package holidays there for UK customers in February last year.

EasyJet's flights to Enfidha have been made possible by its acquisition of the collapsed travel firm's take-off and landing slots at Gatwick.

Next summer will also see easyJet fly to Tirana in Albania, from the UK, for the first time.

The capital offers a city break destination which is within an hour of beaches on the coast of the Adriatic Sea.

Flights will operate three times a week from Gatwick.

EasyJet's other new routes for summer 2020 include Liverpool to Antalya, Turkey, and Edinburgh to Gibraltar.

The airline has no immediate plans to return to Sharm el-Sheikh, despite the lifting of a ban on flights between the UK and the Egyptian resort in October.

All UK flights were halted in November 2015, following the bombing of a Russian airliner.

EasyJet's UK country manager, Ali Gayward, said: "We're pleased to be continuing to deliver an unrivalled network which, with today's announcement, sees two new destinations for passengers from the UK and 25 new routes placed on sale across our network.

"Our new routes are making it easier and more affordable than ever for our customers to travel to a range of summer destinations.

"We expect our new destinations to be especially popular amongst customers, offering something different from typical bucket and spade holidays.

"We are continuing to deliver a network of destinations which provide our customers with flexibility and choice, underlining our commitment to providing the destinations our customers want."
