Councils stockpile salt ahead of the winter
The Local Government Association says in its annual Winter Readiness Survey that councils are preparing for freezing temperatures.
There's a stockpile of some 1.4m tonnes of salt.
The LGA says that each council has, on average, nine full-size gritters and other equipment, with council leaders also reminding households to show extra vigilance and check on vulnerable neighbours and friends.
