Calls for a ban on hands-free mobile phone use

Members of the Transport Committee say the Government needs to consider 'tougher restrictions' on using a mobile phone while driving.

A report claims it needs to enforce the law more robustly after finding that using a mobile phone while driving is dangerous, regardless of what the driver is using the phone for.

Currently, the rate of enforcement on the law has dropped by more than two-thirds since 2011, and MPs are calling on the Government to overhaul the laws on using a phone while driving to ensure they are comprehensive, including banning the use of a phone to send or receive data.
