Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany in hospital after collapsing during training

Vincent Kompany is in hospital after collapsing during a Bayern Munich training session on Friday.

The Bayern boss has been struggling with a virus that left him in pain and having difficulty walking on the touchline in last weekend’s victory over RB Leipzig.

Kompany insisted he was on the mend after the draw with Arsenal in the Champions League on Wednesday.

But, ahead of Sunday’s clash with Freiburg, things took a worrying turn during a reserve-team training session, which Kompany was watching when he collapsed.

A statement on fcbayern.com read: “Kompany is undergoing thorough examinations in hospital and will remain under medical care. His coaching staff will oversee training and match activities until further notice.”

Director of sport Max Eberl added: “Vincent Kompany’s health is our top priority. We at FC Bayern will do everything we can to ensure he makes a speedy recovery.

“Vinnie is receiving all the necessary medical care and support, and all the time he needs. His coaching team, in whom we have complete confidence, will take over his duties. All of us at FC Bayern wish Vinnie a speedy recovery.”

Kompany’s former club Manchester City also sent their best wishes, with a post on their X feed reading: “Everyone at Manchester City is wishing a speedy recovery to our former captain and Club legend, Vincent Kompany.

“Get well soon, Vinny.”
