BBC criticised over Eastenders set budget

The Public Accounts Committee publishes a report into renewing the EastEnders set after an inquiry into the cost increases.

It also looked at delays of a new BBC production set.

The report finds that the project was flawed from the start, and that the BBC underestimated the cost and complexity of E20.

According to the report, the set is not due to be completed until May 2023, five years after its intended opening date, and £27 million over budget.

The Committee makes a number of recommendations, including suggesting that the BBC provide annual updates on the progress, as well as evidence by October that it has learnt from its mismanagement mistakes.
