A short statement from G4S, the private firm that runs the jail, reads:

"Incident on a wing of HMP Birmingham after a group of prisoners refused to return to cells brought to safe conclusion at 23:45 on Sun 3 Sep".

Back in December, around 300 prisoners took over of at least two wings of the jail, in a riot lasting more than 12 hours.

Specialist riot control officers and dog units had to be deployed to the site to regain control.
