Merseyside hit-and-run driver jailed

A man has been jailed for the hit and run death of a four-year-old girl in Merseyside.

Violet-Grace Youens died when a car driven by Aidan McAteer struck here when it mounted a pavement in St Helens in March.

He's been sentenced to nine years and four months.

Dean Ian Brennan was charged with assisting an offender and aggravated vehicle taking.

He was sentenced to six years, eight months in prison.

Merseyside Police has today welcomed the news that two men have been sentenced.

Violet-Grace passed away in hospital on Saturday 25 March, a day after a serious road traffic collision on Prescot Road, St Helens, in which she and her nannie Angela French, 55, were seriously injured. Angela continues to recover in hospital.
